Chartered Accountant
Jiten Mehta is a Maryland-based accountant with more than 30 years of experience in tax preparation, financial reporting, and client advisement. He holds a law degree from the Government Law College in Mumbai and is also a Chartered Accountant through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He is registered with the Maryland Board of Public Accountancy and has served both individuals and businesses in a wide range of industries. Since 2012, he has been working with clients through My Tax Accounting & Business Service, LLC, offering structured and consistent financial services.
His professional journey began in Mumbai, where he pursued both law and accountancy. He joined the Government Law College in 1982 and graduated with his Bachelor of Laws in 1987. During his studies, he developed a strong interest in financial systems, which motivated him to complete the Chartered Accountant qualification. To further his education, he later earned an LLM from the University of Baltimore and also attended classes at UDC.
He began his career at Furgussion and Co., a professional services firm in Mumbai. For three years, he worked with clients on bookkeeping, income tax filings, and audit support. These responsibilities provided valuable experience in financial reporting, compliance obligations, and record maintenance. It was here that he developed the habit of reviewing every calculation and document thoroughly before submission, a discipline that has remained central to his work throughout his career.
After gaining significant experience in India, he moved to the United States and settled in Takoma Park, Maryland. Adjusting to new tax laws and financial regulations required focus, but his background prepared him well. In 2001, he joined Allstate Insurance, where he worked for a year with insurance policies and client advisement. In 2006, he started with H&R Block, where he spent eight years assisting individuals and businesses with both state and federal tax filings. His work included routine compliance as well as long-term planning.
Since 2012, he has been leading My Tax Accounting & Business Service, LLC. His responsibilities include tax planning, payroll processing, monthly reviews, quarterly reports, and audit documentation. He serves sole proprietors, LLCs, and corporations, many of whom have been his clients for decades. His firm also helps with past taxes, nonprofit setup, business formation, and section 8 validation. He emphasizes careful recordkeeping, timely compliance, and practical tax planning.
He remains registered with the Maryland Board of Public Accountancy and stays updated on changes in tax codes and accounting practices. With training in both law and finance, he provides balanced and well-informed guidance to clients.
Beyond professional responsibilities, he supports international students, new arrivals, and those learning to navigate U.S. systems. He has also contributed to charitable causes such as the Salvation Army, preferring meaningful contribution over recognition.
He maintains a disciplined lifestyle, following a vegetarian diet, practicing yoga and meditation, and staying active with regular walking and exercise. In his time, he enjoys sports, chess, table tennis, and cricket.
